Hey guys, welcome to arguably.io, which I hope will become a space to gather organized information about debates, arguments and fact-checks.
arguably.io is a semantically-organized database of arguments, debates and beliefs as well as their interdependencies. The encyclopedia seeks to fairly represent all human beliefs, true or false and help the reader in making a determination about what is true or false. Check out our FAQ to know more, and join the fun! You can open up your own pages on subjects that you find most interesting, or have a look at our Wanted claims.

If you'd like to contribute, start an account and create some pages. Feel free to produce drafts and unfinished stuff, this is a moment at which all ideas are welcomed and it doesn't matter if things aren't in final form.
Volunteers needed

What I'd like us to think about is: what are the important structures of philosophical/scientific/journalistic arguments that we would like to gather information about. Once this is decided upon, we will build a semantic wiki structure with categories and stats tracking that allows displaying the content we produce under this form.
We are currently looking for volunteer editors for the following tasks. You do not need to ask permission to become one, just take on the task and start contributing!
* Going around the Internet for a survey of subjects of controversy and filling the Wanted claims page with ideas on things that aren't covered yet on arguably.io.
* Creating new pages on arguments, mathematical proofs, fact-checks, etc, on any subject present in Wanted claims or not.
* Creating the Editing namespace to start laying out guides for the new contributors and editing guidelines as to what leads to decisions on the encyclopedia. For instance, what categories can a factual claim be in? Possible, possible with some support, false, ... How will we set the standards for each category?
* Start writing a guide in the Editing namespace explaining the functionality of Template:Claim and other functions of the encyclopedia.
* Start monitoring fact-check websites in order to identify the kind of fallacies and detoured "debunking" strategies we will have to call out, and edit the Fallacy namespace accordingly by cataloging every way in which an argument can be deceptive, false, fallacious, etc...
* Feel free to add your own ideas here! JFG (talk) 21:20, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

For instance, for now what comes to mind is that everything on the wiki could be presented as a claim (i.e. each article would be its own claim). A claim could be: false, supported, fallacious with respect with a given argument, unsupported... I'd like us to think about the universe of possible categories in which claims can be divided. Claims could also be the counterclaims of other claims (i.e. "God exists" is the counter-claim of "God does not exist").

For now, here's a couple of things that are on my mind in terms of what we need: Someone to design the $wgLogos and a favicon, some people to lay out structures and standards on how we could evaluate a given claim, how our standards of evidence will function, etc... And perhaps some people to start just playing around adding new articles and content just so we have some models to start from. This should help us see what we need to get started.

It would also be good to have someone who is talented in graphics. Think about a general graphic interface that would be good to lay out any argument, any claim, any counter-claim to it, any fallacies applying to these claims, etc... If you can design it, we can program it into the wiki.
